Guy Weddington McCreary Left This Earth October 12th

Guy Weddington 225Guy Weddington McCreary, devoted husband, loving father, philanthropist, community leader and historian, left this earth on October 12th at the age of 77 years, after a brave battle with cancer.   Guy leaves behind his loving wife Diane, his son Jon and many devoted friends.

Guy was the venerable patriarch of the historic Weddington family, who owned and developed much of North Hollywood, Toluca Lake and Studio City.  Guy’s family came to present day North Hollywood in 1886.  In 1892 Wilson Weddington, Guy’s Great Grandfather, was appointed the first Postmaster of the town of Toluca.  He was also Constable of that same community. LAPD to Open Four Regional Customer Service Centers on Saturdays to Help Resolve Customer Billing Problems

In an ongoing effort to resolve customer billing problems, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) will open four of its Customer Service Centers on Saturdays for the next eight weeks, starting this Saturday, March 22. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In response to the significant operational problems encountered with the replacement of its 40- year old customer billing system, LADWP apologized in an open letter to its customers and launched a new billing information webpage to allow customers to track the progress being made. Thank you to Richard Bogy who has preserved this photo sent to him by Rickie Stambaugh. It was taken at the Chamber’s installation of officers banquet on February 15, 1969.

From left to right are James Potter (City Councilman), Dorothy Lamour (“movie queen” and co-star of the Hope-Crosby “Road Pictures”), Ed Reinecke (Lt. Governor of California), Ann Blythe (Movie Queen – Oscar nominee for Mildred Pierce), Chamber President John Broughton and his wife June.

Ann Blythe served as Honorary Sheriff and Dorothy Lamour was our “Ambassador of Goodwill.” Both lived in Toluca Lake; Dorothy on Placidia Avenue and Ann on Toluca Estates Drive.

Assemblymember Nazarian’s Visit to Toluca Lake

On February 7th our California State Assemblymember, Adrin Nazarian, spent the morning visiting a few Toluca Lake Chamber Members. It was a great opportunity for our members to personally ask questions and raise concerns about State Government, and how it affects their business. Assemblymember Nazarian fielded questions and listened intently. It was a productive session. We are hoping to have another round soon, so if you are interested in participating, please let us know!

2013 Toluca Lake Holiday Open House

Honeybaked350The 2013 Annual Holiday Open House has come and gone, and once again has attracted thousands of visitors into the Village. The Merchants, shop owners and restaurants graciously opened their doors with a Holiday flair. Once again making their way up and down Riverside Drive was the ever popular Bag Pipe band, along with Strolling Carolers, and an open air van filled with even more Carolers from The Lawrence School and Walter Reed Middle School.
